1992 Thoroughbred
Stallion
Man O' War x Polar
Queen by Eclipse
(29) 26-0-1
To
find a more noble, great horse would be a challenge far beyond anyone I
know. Polar Eclipse not only dominated the tracks, but dominated the hearts
of anyone who knew him or even knew of him. He was always a gorgeous foal,
the first born of Triple Tiara and Filly Triple Crown winner Polar Queen
(who would go on to produce numerous grade 1 winners) and by far the handsomest.
He was strong and solid of bone with an eye that held no secrets. He would
often look off into the distance at a point known only to him. It's believed
that he was watching the greats of the past run free.
Polar
Eclipse was a great racehorse, sweeping the coveted Triple Crown along
with every other major stakesrace in Thoroughbred racing, but that wasn't
the only thing that made him special. For starters, he'd never been unsound
in his life. He had bones of steel. He was incredibly intelligent and teaching
him was simple, you just did it once and he caught on. The best quality
of Polar Eclipse, however, was his love of people. He loved to be around
people and have attention lavished on him, and he was known for packing
handicapped and other little children about on "pony rides." Hardly the
sight you would imagine for such a coveted champion. He breathed life into
everyone he met's heart and soul.
